September 21, 2012 I had the pleasure of attending the Nygard ‘Spice it Up Fashion Show’in support of breast cancer. It was the ultimate girls’ day out as I went with my mom and granny. Even though typical fall fashion is made up of earthy tones, we all donned pretty pink hues in support of the cause.
The event was hosted at the Nygard Kenaston location. It was very Hollywood-esque as guests were greeted by photographers snapping away as they made their way down the indigo blue carpet lined with velvet ropes on either side. The marble floors were polished to glossy perfection. Hors d’oeuvres and wine were served as guests browsed the fall/holiday collection. As added incentive to attendees, Nygard offered an in store discount to merchandise purchased at the event.
During the preshow mingling, my granny received lots of attention on her outfit. She had accessorized her pale pastel skirt suit perfectly with black gloves, a black soft chenille scarf, complete with a beautiful black (homemade) headpiece. Numerous guests’ comments compared her to the Coco Chanel. A few ladies also came by to show appreciation for her ‘fascinator’. Needless to say, my snazzy granny was on cloud nine! She was the star in her very own whimsical fashion fairytale! It was a truly unique experience for both grandmother and granddaughter alike, as I watched on in admiration as she accepted the praise with such poise and grace. She remained humble as Jim Benett, President & CEO of Nygard, referred to her as “a knock out”. That’s my granny!
Before we knew it, it was show time! Chairs were set up around the store converting the traditional horizontal catwalk into a figure-eight style, giving the audience an average minute or so before seeing the model return. This in turn gave everyone a front row experience to the show. The collection was everything one comes to expect from Nygard- filled with classic, clean lines; and staple pieces you can re-invent again and again. A triumphant and hopeful ambiance fell over the crowd as partway through the show ten breast cancer survivors took to the runway. It was very gratifying to see that these brave women smiling and strutting their stuff with confidence amidst the ordeals they had faced. I’m getting goose bumps even as I recall this moment in time now! It was a true testament to the strength of a woman and a solid reminder for me to be thankful to my mom.
The final reveal was absolutely stunning. A glamazon beauty stepped out in a one-of-a-kind Nygard creation entitled, “Goddess Gown”. The piece was absolutely beautiful! I adored the gold sheath of the floor length gown; anyone wearing it would truly feel like a goddess!
I would highly encourage everyone take part in this exciting event. Great cause, great fashion…need I say more?! I am looking forward to the Spring Show! My goal is to get a picture with the ever inspiring Peter Nygard!
